More good news for breastfeeding families! We have known for some time that maternal exercise during pregnancy can provide health benefits to the baby. Now a recent study published in Nature Metabolism has looked into the reason why this happens. The small study found that women who exercise during pregnancy and the postpartum period produce more SL3 in their breast milk. This compound is thought to help prevent certain lifelong health issues in the baby, including heart disease, obesity and Type 2 Diabetes. The study results showed the same benefits in the breast milk for any form of exercise, regardless of intensity. So even getting out for a daily walk can help.
