A study was recently published in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics with more positive findings about the benefits of breastfeeding. The study looked at data from preschool children, ages 3 to 5, from 2011 and 2012 from the National Survey of Children’s Health. The researchers found that breastfeeding was associated with a lower risk of developing ADHD in childhood.

The study was specifically looking at preschoolers, and ADHD is often diagnosed later in childhood, but there are often signs that raise concern in this age group. So these results are very promising! Breastfeeding can be challenging but the benefits are lifelong for both the child and the mother!
