Urbana Pediatrics is a small pediatric practice in the Casa Bella Commons complex in Urbana.
Our mission is to provide high quality medical care in a warm, friendly environment.
We care for patients from birth to 21 years of age.
We provide well child care and manage both acute and chronic medical conditions.

Jennifer Lynn Burns, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Jennifer Burns has been a pediatrician in Frederick County for over 17 years. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Burns received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in 1995 and her medical degree from New York Medical College in 2000. She did her residency in Pediatrics at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. After completing her residency, Dr. Burns worked in the Emergency Department at Children’s National Medical Center. She then worked for over 12 years at a large pediatric practice in Frederick and for 2 years at a smaller pediatric practice. Dr. Burns opened Urbana Pediatrics in 2019 at Casa Bella Commons to serve the Urbana community and its surrounding areas.
Dr. Burns enjoys taking care of children of all ages. She manages both acute and chronic medical conditions and provides comprehensive well-childcare for patients from birth through young adulthood.
Dr. Burns is originally from Long Island, New York. She lives with her husband and son in Urbana. In her free time Dr. Burns enjoys reading, baking, listening to music and spending time outside with her family at Urbana’s great parks and playgrounds.

Adrienne Harmel, CPNP, IBCLC
Adrienne Harmel has been practicing as a pediatric nurse practitioner for 12 years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from University of Maryland Baltimore in 2001. Her nursing experience includes pediatric intensive care, hematology/oncology, as well as psychiatric nursing. She received her Master’s of Science in Nursing from University of Maryland Baltimore in 2008 and has been working in pediatric primary care since becoming certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner that same year. She has worked as a PNP in both large and small practice settings in Frederick County, MD and Loudoun County, VA. She is an active member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and served on the executive board of the local chapter of NAPNAP from 2008 through 2014.
Adrienne enjoys developing relationships with families and following children from the newborn period through young adulthood. She has a special interest in lactation support and became certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2020. Her own breastfeeding experience and struggles inspired her 5 years ago to pursue this certification. She is committed to guiding and supporting families as they journey through the first years of baby’s life. Read Adrienne’s lactation support blog here.
Adrienne is originally from Baltimore, MD, and now lives in Loudoun County, VA with her husband, daughter and dog. When she is not working with families and children, she enjoys exercising, travelling, cooking and reading.
She is very excited to be a member of Urbana Pediatrics, and to work alongside her mentor, Dr. Burns.

Amy Mathew, M.D., FAAP
Dr. Amy Mathew has been a pediatrician for over 11 years. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She received her B.A. in Biology from Johns Hopkins University in 2002 and her medical degree from the University of Chicago in 2006. She completed her Pediatrics residency at the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in 2009. Since her residency, she has worked in both large and small practice groups in Frederick and Montgomery County, MD.
Dr. Mathew has experience managing a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions. She strives to provide comprehensive family-centered care for all her patients from birth to young adulthood. Her special interests include nutrition as well as asthma management.
Dr. Mathew was born and raised in Kansas and is a big fan of both the Chiefs and Jayhawks. She now lives in Urbana with her husband and two children. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, traveling, and has taken a recent interest in gardening.

Vaccine Policy Statement
- We believe that vaccinating our patients is one of the most important things that we can do as medical providers because vaccines help prevent many serious and life-threatening illnesses.
- We believe that vaccines are safe and effective and do not cause autism or other neurodevelopmental conditions.
- We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center for Disease Control’s vaccination schedules and will not allow children who follow alternative vaccination schedules in our practice.
- We will not allow unvaccinated children in our practice unless they have a true medical contraindication to receiving vaccines.
- We know that there is a lot of information on the internet about vaccines. The following are some of the websites that we recommend visiting to obtain information about vaccines:
- We will always discuss the vaccines that your child is due to receive at his or her visit and will provide you with Vaccine Information Sheets (VIS) to review. We are happy to answer any questions that you may have about the vaccines that your child is due to receive.
